" Any record of the date of birth of Yeshua of Nazareth (later known as Jesus Christ) has been lost. There is sufficient evidence in the Gospels to indicate that Yeshua was born in the fall, but this seems to have been unknown to early Christians. By the beginning of the 4th century CE, there was intense interest in choosing a day to celebrate Yeshua's birthday. The western church leaders selected DEC-25 because this was already the date recognized throughout the Roman Empire as the birthday of various Pagan gods. 1,2 Since there was no central Christian authority at the time, it took centuries before the tradition was universally accepted."

HELLO?

There's a REASON GOD DIDN'T think it was important to give his birthday! Because celebration of birthdays in the bible (both of them, ended in someone dying). Plus, God said through Christ Jesus, "better is the day of your death than your birth." And, everyone knows exactly what day he died on. Nisan 14 of the Jewish Calendar (also known as Passover) which is exactly the same day every year, the first full moon AFTER the vernal equinox. This is almost always a tuesday. So, God says birthdays aren't important and then we don't know when he was born, but that the day of death is, and we know exactly when he died! So, why are we celebrating something God finds repulsive?

There was no real set date for his birth, so when the Christians tried to convert the Celts, they used a date close to their winter solstice to help out. Personally Christmas is what you celebrate it as. I am a druid so its a winter solstice for me, but if someone wants to celebrate the birth of their savior on that day who am I to tell them not to... Things are always what you personally make of them

Christmas stems from a pagan holiday. It had to be done in order to convert the pagan masses. Jesus Christ was not born on this day and there are many speculations as to when but it was definetley not on Decmeber 25.

I agree. Actually, the birth more than happened a month or so after the common belief. Tool, Christians are never instructed to keep that day as a memorial. Funny how the expressly defined ones are largely ignored, isn't it? Our calendar is actually off by six days and six years!

It was an attempt by the Catholic Church to make Christianity more appealing to the pagans. So they blended customs and put the dates near festivals the pagans had already established. Easter is another example. No one knows when Christ was born.
