I myself, am somewhat domineering.

I would say the best way I would like to be handled is equally. This should work, as long as she is aware of how she is.

Don't do everything she says, because you'll be walked all over. But also don't try to control her. Let her have her way, but challenge her thought process gently and humorously. Joke with her about her actions without attacking her. That way, it will sort of snap her out of being controlling without getting you in trouble. Soon, she really won't be very domineering at all.

If she gets defensive even when you try to reason and joke with her, it's probably not worth the effort. In that case, she obviously has a lot of her own issues to deal with that you can't help her with.

They are very hard to deal with because they think they're always right and that they are sort of "THE LAW" in flesh and bones.
first of all when they're mad, just WALK AWAY because you won't get anywhere with them while they're mad.
Talk to her about the thins she does that you LIKE and Dislike that way it won't seem like a negative talk, but do it when she's happy and in a good mood or just calm, for instance a Sunday laid back afternoon.
If you can't get her to see it then find someone that's close to her (and that she actually listens to) to talk to her about her attitude, but without mentioning you this way she'll see that you're not the only person that feels that way about her.
Make like a small contract where you two give in on stuff the other one wants you to stop doing..
