... When, in your opinion, did real punk rock die?

I say somewhere in the early to mid 80's.

it started to die in the 80's, and people think it's coming back in a new form. It's not....now, thier just calling emo fags that wear makeup and ties that sing about being lonely and dieing, punk. These bands are mainstream music. Thats about the polar opposite of punk. As far as I know, punk was about not going mainstream and becoming famous.
Also, a lot of people think they know punk, but they only know bands like, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Clash, or The Dead Kennedys. Real punk includes Rudimentary Peni, Amebix, AGE, Crass, Effigy, Hellbastard, Doom, and Napalm Death

There were only two punk bands: The Ramones and the Sex Pistols...everyone else belonged to an offshoot or a subgenre.

real punk has been underground and few real punk bands have made it to mainstream. I do like the music today, but they are not punk. they may be influenced by the ramones, sex pistols, misfits etc, but they are not punk. real punk is still around, but the devoted and true fans, go underground for it. you cant buy real punk at hot topic kids....

peace.

Real Punk is still out there. right now you just have a bunch of pop wannabees who claim to be punk and have driven the real stuff underground again.

Real punk rock lives on in individuals who go their own way. It ain't about some stupid haircut or a junkie-band

I agree with you. All the new so-called punk bands are terrible. Bring back the Clash, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones...well, if we could bring them back that is.
