I'm conservative on a number of issues. I'm opposed to abortion on demand and I'm opposed to gay marriage, as two examples of that.

But I generally support the ACLU.

A lot of conservatives want to overcome 'political correctness' in society, as do I. But political correctness slices both ways. There's liberal PC and there's conservative PC. Neither can be allowed to influence the laws of the land.

The ACLU is as likely to fight for someone's right to protest at an abortion clinic or a gay parade as they are to fight for someone's right to protest at a Republican rally or a church.

The ACLU is a nonpartisan organization that stands in defense of civil liberties. Not just yours or mine, but everyones.

Sometimes they defend people I find vile and potentially dangerous, but they do it to protect the principle of civil freedom...for all people, including you. They are not advocating for pornography or homosexuality... they are advocating for individual freedom and free expression. If those things can be taken away from gays or pornographers, they can be taken away from you too. You can't have it both ways.

The ACLU takes on fighting for the Constitutional rights of all classes of Americans. They have taken on cases to protect the Republicans rights to free speech. I would think that any conservative that is concerned with protecting our rights would support the ACLU.

The ACLU has defended the Ku Klux Klan and other ultra right wing groups, as well as ultra left groups, they are an org that defends the consitutional rights not the person! You can be anything and support them

Another reason is even if you disagree with a particular case they take every case helps to more clearly define the intent and measure of the law, sometimes (surprise,surprise) our politicians pass legislation that is too vague in it's wording, or unconstitutional, by taking cases through the Judiciary we can get clearer more binding laws that work for everyone

Hey, they defend RUSH LIMBAUGH, JERRY FALLWELL and several other conservatives including that scumbag, the "reverend" Fred Phelps.

That proves there impartiality.

I don't think of myself as a conservative but there's no way I can support the ACLU after some of the horrible things they've done. To go to court to fight for the rights of those wackos to spew their filth at the funerals of fallen American Fighting men is just too much.

I am just waiting for the next ACLU lawyer to drop dead in my area and I'm going to organize as many veterans as I can to go to that funeral and make it as bad as we possibly can.

A conservitive reading of the constitution would note the passage all rights and powers not in this constitution shall be the rights and powers of the governed.
