Best bars for what? Live music? Rock? Jazz? The best bars for picking up women? For dancing? Can't speak for the NW 'burbs, but as far as Chicago goes, there's a bar for every taste.

but if you want a simple answer, walk down Clark street around Wrigley Field. There's a bar every two feet. or go to Wicker Park (the intersection of Milwaukee, North Ave. and Damen). It's about the same as Wrigleyville, barwise, but it's more Smashing Pumpkin to Wrigleyville's Van Halen.

Also, check out this website (http://chi.myopenbar.com/bars.php). It tells you where you can get cheap or free drinks every night of the week. Rock ON!

To be honest the bar scene is overrated and tired and most bars like Johnny Barleycorns and Neo's are places to go and sit down have a drink or get a bite to eat.
