He must be having a metal breakdown or something. I've never seen his stand up, but I would imagine if he's done it before then he would have some snappy comebacks for hecklers. There's no excuse for what he said. You make fun of how hecklers look maybe, but not outright racially attack someone with malice.

I don't see any 'right thing' anywhere. Recalling Mel Gibson's recent utterings, and going by the maxim that "nobody blurts out a lie," the only thing he is doing now is spin and damage control.
If racists are so proud of their beliefs and positions, why back pedal after outing yourself? Or why not admit it in the first place?
You'll still be a racist, but at least you won't be a hypocrite too.
And the rest of us can identify you more easily. It is better at least to know who your enemies are. Skin head vs. Michael Richards prior to last week? I'll take the skin head.

Just like Mel - an apology from either 1 of them just looks like a Hollywood "sorry" ... Unless of course they go on to do charitable work or make a nice donation.

Other than that, I think both of their apologies aren't from the heart, but what their fans & critics expect of them.

BUT and I mean BUT I also think that African Americans should not be pissed about the term he used, as it is used in just about every Rap song & movie the entertainment industry produces... It's either offensive or it's not. Just because a white person emphasizes the "er" part as opposed to the "ah" you hear in songs/movies, does not make the term itself less offensive.

They need to make up their minds and stop playing the "if you say the N-word than you are a racist" when their own say it all the time as if it's like "and" "or" or "the"...

Yon know what, it really isn't that deep. I've heard worse. People know that racism still exists. They are using this as a way to spearhead the 'fight against racism' campaign. In a month no one is going to care until someone else makes a racial slur. People should start trying to stop racism at home. It's plenty of black people that use the 'N' word. I say we all try to stay away from the word. And when I say we, I mean us of the colored persuasion because we abuse the hell outta the word. All in all this controversy just added another 15 min. to his failing career.

I am not buying Richards insincere attempts to aplogize on his "I'm-not-a-racist" tour! Please! However he is doing the "right" thing if he wants to save his drowning career but that's about as far as it goes. This is in him. No amounts of apologies will convince me otherwise. Beleive me if this were not boradcasted I seriously doubt he would apologize!

i don't get your question....."Who thinks Michael Richards did the right thing?" by reacting the way he did or by apologizing?

My answer would be neither ....as an entertainer he should have handled it better knowing you can't please everyone. His apologies don't seem sincere to me.

Yes for apologizing, and Talking to Jesse Jackson helps him a lot.

Do I think he did the right thing by apologizing? Yes I do. But that is ALL he owes them.

I heard the whole thing, and believe me -its not the worst thing. this world is so sensitive to any wrong--its just another step in the pussification of man--I do not care what color he was--its just not that important--and you heard worse in the 60's comedy clubs and everyone laughed to it.
