I had the same problem when I was 10 weeks. An ultrasound revealed that I had a blood clot (about 1 cm) on my cervix and that it wasn't anything to worry about. The clot was just breaking up in little pieces. I am now 12 1/2 weeks and everything is fine. Apparently old blood is better to have as spotting than red blood. Good luck with it.

I agree with everyone, your dr would have told you if it was a problem. She must not have been too concerned if she didn't say you needed to worry. If you are worried about a miscarriage, you can go into your local health store and get something called False Unicorn. It is an herb that helps you to not miscarry in the first weeks. I was recommended it when I spotted at 18 weeks with my first born. Of course that was by a Mid Wife. But I carried full term no problems after that!

Brown blood is old--could be from last period, could be from the exam. I wouldn't worry if the doctor wasn't worried. I also had spotting at week 5 with this pregnancy and it scared me about miscarriage also. After a sonogram, the doctor determined I had a "pocket" of blood up near the top of my uterus for some reason, so we did a sonogram every couple of weeks to make sure it didn't grow. At my last songram at 20wks, the blood was totally gone and a bouncing little baby was in there for sure. I hope yours is the same situation and all goes well for you. Good luck!

Just ask the doctor and if she doesn't really explain seek a second opinion. I was told by my doctor (twice this happened)that I was spotting & not to worry , my mistake for listening to this quack I miscarried the next day. Thank God the 3rd was a success due to a great doctor explaining to me that after 91/2 weeks my body can't carry a child full-term without taking extra estrogen for the 1st three months of any pregancy. I'm not saying you might be but it's always best to ask questions & if not satified get a second opinion.

I had spotting at 5 weeks as well and my doctor told me it was implantation bleeding. I also had spotting at 8 weeks and again at 10 weeks. The doctor said I just had a sensitive cervix and it was normal. If it was brown blood, that means it's old and probably not a problem. If your doctor thought you were miscarrying, he or she probably would have told you. Besides, it's the heavy, red bleeding you need to be concerned about in terms of a miscarriage.

I wouldn't worry about it, as that is more harmful than anything right now. At 6 weeks I went to the hospital bleeding moderately and cramping severely, and I now have a beautiful 3 month old boy! Also, brown blood is a sign of old blood, and not current bleeding. Many women spot throughout the first trimester and have healthy babies!

I spotted with both of my kids, more so with my son, I thought I was miscarrying because I had to wear a pad. They told me it is due to all the changes in your body. All the new hormones. If you don't have cramping and aren't going through a pad an hour you should be just fine. It is just a normal thing your body is doing to prepare. Hope this helps a little and takes some of your worry away.

Your doctor didn't say anything to you about the spotting while you were there? I'd call or make another appointment, or see another doctor. Otherwise just keep an eye on it. Are you having any cramps? Cramps usually come along with a miscarriage. But check with your doctor or another doctor just to be sure. Good Luck
