Too bad my son is asleep, he and my son-in-law try to out wrap each other's gift every year. Last year one gift was frozen into a block of ice and the other gave a gift with multiple small pieces...each piece individually wrapped in layers of tape, paper, foil and glue.
hmmm how about buying him a cheap, lame book and tucking them in as bookmarks? He'll be disapointed with the gift until he looks inside the book.
Or, find a picture of his favorite player from the team and frame it and tuck the tickets in the frame with the picture.
Buy him an inexpensive wallet and tuck them inside before wrapping it.
Get several boxes in decreasing sizes. Place the tickets in the smallest, wrap it..place that in the next one, wrap it...and so on. Maybe add a few rocks to give it some weight and shake factor.
(My son has put broken glass inside a can and sealed it and wrapped it with the gift so it sounds like it is broken)

take some paper and make a " basketball with a slit for the tickets. then another piece of paper make a sun then another make a drawing of a phoenix ( make the basketball bigger so you can make a second half for the top ) so you can sandwich the tickets, sun and phoenix inside the basketball. then wrap the whole thing as normal.

You could get balloons shaped as basketballs and wrap the tickets up and tie them to the bottom of a bunch of balloons.
buy a basketball and put a slit in it big enough to fit his hand...put the tix in an envelope inside and have him reach inside to find them.
maybe get a doll of the mascot and put the tickets in its hands, then wrap up the doll.
get a scrapbook and decorate it with pix or whatever having to do with the team. Give him that with the tix inside an a disposable camera so he can take pix and put them in the scrapbook after the game to remember it.
get him some slippers that have basketballs on them (you know the big, fun slippers they make with different characters or objects on them) and put the tickets inside the slippers for him to find.

Put it in a crummy box and wrap it in newspaper. Make sure the tickets are protected so he doesn't end up ripping them apart. He'll think it's a crummy gift and he'll be ecstatic once he finds out what it is.

You can try the old standby way and start with an envelop, then put the envelop in a small box, then the small box in a bigger box, and so on and so on....Corny, but always a hit!!!!
