No, because I doubt 80% of America could put Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan on a blank, unlabeled map.

I find many Americans are well traveled and informed, but some come off a little gruff if we aren't familiar with a certain place in South Carolina, etc. I've never heard an American ridicule our health care system, they would be a sitting duck. Most American's hate their president. Some Americans are quite opinionated and assertive to convert you to their point of view. They wonder why the fuel is so expensive ($5/gal) and the taxes are so high. Many say that Canada is more beautiful (at least the ones coming from Idaho up to eastern BC). America is the beacon of freedom. Yes you make mistakes and get high on yourself sometimes, but I would rather have the US than Russia, China, India, or pretty much any other country be the leader of the free world (including Canada, we are so wishy-washy and have a puny military). You've done a better job of being a superpower than Britain, France, and Spain did and way way better than Germany or the USSR. Cheers!

Why don't you go around highschools, set in on a few classes and see what geography teachers are teaching their students. You may be surprised to know that the average American people do not love war but neither are we cowards who set back and judge others that knows nothing they are talking about.

Unfortunatly a lot of us americans still can't find iraq on a world map :( beleive it or not, we are not all angry republican war mongers. sadly though it seems that being of the peacefull type the more aggressive ones here seem to get thier way in the matter. I try to promote more voteing in the younger demographic. Im 24 and it really seems like the retired people get all the vote in this country. Even still, a lot of it is out of the publics hands, we never got to vote on if we go to war, Bush and his regime made that choice. I think he has managed to hoodwink the 30-40% of americans who still support his cause.

Don't be silly. We don't teach geography at all. Most Americans don't even know our OWN geography. Sad, but true.

No. There was a poll, not long ago, that showed most high schoolers couldn't find Iraq on a world map.

So much for that theory.

Is this a true question or a wry stab at the giant contradiction that is this country...?

In the former case, no, it is not.
