My mare lifts her head up really high when she eats most of the time.... I'm worried about her, her teeth floating was due on the 1st of nov. My mom says she is short on money and keeps putting it off for other reasons.... (We can afford it) My question is, what is wrong with my mare?? She has been doing this for about 4 months and is 13 yrs old, the vet says if it gets worse to call.

Thank You =)

If this has been going on for about 4 months it may not have anything to do with floating your mares teeth, since she was due November 1. Also if she was having tooth pain/ mouth pain she probably wouldn't be eating as much and be losing weight. You would also see alot of her food in her water, horses tend to do this to soften food up. I would def call the Vet and have them run some tests. It could be a lot of things. It could even be neurologic....... which isn't good.... so I would say get the vet out.

I would call the vet and get her opinion. I would also get her teeth floated ASAP because it may hurt your mare when she eats. That is probably why she is lifting her head because she is trying to stop the pain. It might feel more comfortable to her to lift her head. But, definitely call the vet and the equine dentist to get her teeth floated. I hope this helps you and good luck with everything!

i had the same problem with my mare is 29 years old and when i called the vet to take a look at her she said it was her teeth.

i got the vet to float her teeth and now shes fine.

i would suggest to have the vet look at her teeth sometimes the vet will take payments.

good luck hope your horse is feeling better soon.

Who Is Your VET!!!!!!!(don't really answer ) i think that your mare is having trouble swallowing her food and your vet may need to un-clog her air way! So if it was up to me i would call the vet and make him check her out again! If her teeth need floating them that could be the problem...she could not be chewing her food properly and when she swallows it can get stuck in her airway or throat! you should and probally need to call your vet and get her teeth floated or you could be in serious trouble! Good Luck!!!!!

maybe she has a problem with her breathing, or with swallowing. it sounds a bit like she has discomfort when eating. i would get a vet to come and look at her.

hope she's O.K.
