My wife and I just spent our honeymoon at Port Orleans Riverside. It's one of our favorite resorts and it was great spending a week there. The nice thing about Port Orleans is that it is a very quiet resort. After a busy day at the parks, it's nice to come back to the resort where you can relax and enjoy the comfort of your room.
This most recent time we were at Acadian House. The time before we were at Magnolia Terrace. I think I like the design and location of Magnolia Terrace better, but any location at Port Orleans is great. And the Riverside Mill Food Court is great, because there are several quick service counters with a nice variety of food and it's convenient to drop in and get a bite to eat. Boatwright's is also a fantastic restaurant which I'm sure you'll enjoy.
Have fun!

I stayed at Port Orleans - Riverside back when it was the Dixie Landings Resort. Not much changed except for the name, in fact, room locations and names of the different walkways are still the same. I was a bit younger when I stayed there, but I enjoyed it very much. We stayed near Alligator Bayou. I remember the walkways being a little windy and confusing, and it always seemed to take a while to get back to our room, but that was fine. I really liked the pool, and every morning I'd have a cinnamon roll at the food court by the big water wheel, and us kids would run to the nearby gift shop while the adults were finishing their breakfast.
All of the Walt Disney World Resorts are wonderful. I enjoyed the Resort very much and I'm sure your family will, too. Some other benefits of this Resort are that you can use the pool over at Port Orleans - French Quarter, you can ride a boat on the Sassagoula River to Downtown Disney rather than take a bus, and at night the Resort offers fun and romantic carriage rides along the Sassagoula.
Have a great vacation!
* Skibum, perhaps we've both met our match. Excellent answer from you as well. : )

My wife and I took a 6-night/7-day vacation to Disney World back in October 1995 when Riverside was still referred to as Dixie Landings. We loved it. Being off the beaten path made it a very peaceful place to stay. The only downfall of staying there is that the only way of getting anywhere is by using the bus or driving yourself. They do however have a nice boat ride down the river to Downtown Disney. The buses at Disney aren't bad though, and you won't have to wait long to catch one to wherever you want to go.
We've been back to Disney World six times since that visit and we haven't stayed at the Riverside since. Not because it isn't a nice place but because I'm eligible to stay at the US Armed Forces hotel "Shades of Green" in the Magic Kingdom area. I do however sometimes wish I could find an off-season deal to get back to Riverside. One of my best memories at Disney World was taking the boat from Riverside to Downtown Disney after dark with my wife. It was very enjoyable!
As for the other answers above... Katlyn's answer is right on the money. I think I've met my match on Disney World knowledge.
