Internet connection sharing in my opinion is more hassle than it's worth .. i think it was designed back in the day of dial-up modems. You best bet is to get a router to split the internet connection for you .. either wireless or cable.

You don't mention whether you are using a router, DSL, or what.
If DSL, it should have a vacant port, (MOST have 4 ports). Simply run a line from the ethernet connection of the second computer to a vacant ethernet port on the DSL. (Maximum run should be less than 100 feet for best operation! Premade cables are available up to that length.)
Then use the "wizard" to set up a connection on the second computer.
As a side effect, you will ALSO have a LAN between the 2 computers as the DSL will assign them DIFFERENT addresses automatically.
If you use a router, then the same as above applies. (An external modem with more than 1 ethernet connection IS a router!!)
Since you say you use ethernet, I assume one or the other applies.
IF however, you are using an internal modem and dial-up, then you can use the ethernet ports on both computers to connect them together and set up the one with the modem for ICS (Internet Connection Sharing), BUT then BOTH need to be running for the second to connect to the Internet through the first.

You either need a wireless network or you need to run an Ethernet line down to the other computer. A wireless network is probably easier.

The easiest way would be to set up a wireless router. You can get them at most big stores like fry's wal-mart, target, ect... follow the directions on the box. good luck!

if you have a router, you may configure it, un less you have two network hubs, that also works, but two on the same line causes a conflict of you IP address. the router is the best choice for two or more computers, wheather it,s wireless lan or local.
