Well, that is hard to answer. We work all our lives and a part of our paycheck goes to social security. Some workers get paid more than other workers. When they retire, the lower paid workers have a lower salary from social security.
This is fact, not fiction.

We are going to see a large increase in the elderly due to the medications now available to increase our lifespan.

Keep in mind that if government pays 100% of all health care for over 75, you are paying for that and taxes will increase.

Good idea, in fact, I wish it could happen, but not helpful for the younger generation. I do believe in better care for the elderly. I think some legislations care more greatly about the elderly than others. This current one cares about the elderly but every thing is being blocked by the opposing parties. Truth, not fiction.

So, the reason the government should not pay 100% is because there is not enough money to cover the increasing number of people over the age of 75. They are already receiving help and if they have chosen a proper or cheap co-insurance plan, they are doing the best that can be done. It is the homeless elderly that have the real problem, not the rich elderly.

Some governments do - the United Kingdom and Canada to name two. It's just in the US that we feel providing decent health care to all citizens is not a right, but a privilege.

It IS the governments job to provide health care. Do you remember social security? Its the fund that these people had spent thier lives working and contributing to. Its not thier fault that the government has mismanaged it so badly that the people working and putting into it now are paying for those who are retired and when THEY retire, there will be nothing.

Because there are better uses of young people's tax money then prolonging meaningless existence of people who are no longer useful to society.
