Children (and adult children) of divorce...how do you spend it? And married adult children of divorce?

We do his family Christmas eve, just us and our child Christmas morning and my mom Christmas Day evening for dinner. Then go to my dad's over new years (lives in a different state). Is anyone else's holiday this hectic...family hectic?

Well on Dec. 23 we have lunch with my mom's family and dinner with my husband's fathers family then on Christmas eve we have lunch with my dad and dinner at my in-laws then Christmas morning we are at home for Santa with our kids and then off to lunch with my husbands mother's family. It is a long tiring weekend of too much food and to much driving.

Well, since we live 6 hrs. away from family we stay home every year. Traveling with 7 kids is way too hard anyway. When we did live at home we would go to my husband's family on Xmas Eve and my parent's on Xmas Day...and if we couldn't make it for some reason my family was always very understanding. His family would always get mad and never understood. Two years in a row his grandma hung up the phone on me because I told her we couldn't afford the gift exchange. They wanted to do $20 per person...and with us having 5 kids at the time, plus my husband and I, amounts to $140. I very politely told her we couldn't afford it. So, in a way I enjoy being away during the holidays. We can do our own thing, and don't have to worry about keeping everyone else happy. We open presents of course, and make a huge meal. Santa gets milk and cookies, and even carrots for the reindeer. They usually make a big mess all over the house with them. The kids get a huge kick out of this. We have even sprinkled dry oatmeal and glitter around the yard, "reindeer food". Can't forget about telling the REAL story of Chistmas either. Merry Christmas!

Every year I go with my sisters and their kids for Chinese food on Christmas Eve. We have an inflatable tree. Come Christmas everyone opens presents and then assembles at my house where they get more presents. We watch Jackie Chan action movies (preferably the older and badly dubbed ones) after we open presents. And then, since we live in LA and the kiddies don't get snow, I take them to the beach to build sand-castles instead of snowmen. Then we come back and eat the dinner my sisters and their husbands have mad.
