Women wear make up because they are socialised into believing that this is the norm! In other wards it is down to the culture that women feel it necessary to wear make up and that people in this society believe that its a women's thing! However there are cultures in South America and Africa where the men do what we know as the women's role and the woman does the men's role as we know it! And the men wear make up to make their selves more appealing to women. So to answer your question it is down to the way we are socialised in this society that a woman feels the need to wear makeup and the fact that its socially unacceptable for a man to wear it.

For the same reason that men don't spend 2 hours doing our hair or choosing what we are going to wear. We dont worry too much about how we look. Women do care a whole lot.

some men do wear cosmetics but only because they think it is cool to be ambivalent about their sexuality. In most species it is the males that do the attracting. In birds for example it is the males that have the colourful feathers to attract the females, whereas females are dull plain colours. Humans are one of the only species where its the women who wear the bright colours to attract the males - makeup! It has been suggested that this has an evolutionary basis, but i cant remember what this is, sorry!

Some men do, but its not a sociably acceptable for guys. We guys look at another guy wearing make-up and first thoughts that he's gay. Not always true. We need to chill and let people dress how they like.

Men are more visual than women. They need to see things as attractive more than women do. (This is why more men than women watch porn) Women tend to be attracted to men as much for personality as looks ,sometimes more, so the pressure for men to enhance their looks is much less.
