Buck and doe are actually the more correct term in my opinion even though they mean the same thing. I used to always refer to them as nannies and billies, until I got my own goats and started talking to other people that raise goats. I found that more of the people I talked to referred to their goats as does, bucks, and wethers, no matter what kind of breed they were raising. Maybe the reason that you are noticing a change is that more people raise/own goats now than a few years ago, so more people are learning that "doe" and "buck" are more widely used terms within the goat industry.

It really hasn't changed. Most dairy goats are generally called does and bucks while non-dairy goats (meat and fiber) are called billies and nannies. The reason buck and doe might seem more common now is because in the '90s the U.S. stopped subsidizing Angora goats (fiber goats that produce mohair) and they were almost always called billies and nannies... when the industry went out I think those names went with it. Today most goat owners use doe and buck, but dairy goat owners will probably correct you were as meat and fiber producers might not. And, to make it even more confusing, male sheep are sometime also called bucks, that is understandable though "ram lamb" is sort of a mouthfull!

Actually the terms are interchangeable. Goats in and of themselves are referred to be by true breeders as nannies and billies, but goats as a member of the same zoological branch of the tree as deer are also referred to as bucks and does...at least this is what they told me at the goat farm the other day (love that goat cheese!)
