I don't know if it would be a better idea to take out as much money as I think I'll need in Canadian dollars, and excehange them into CUC as I need them, or if there are any banks there that will accept my interac/eftpos card card as a way to take out funds. I'd rather not use credit card or keep huge amounts of foreign currency on me unless it's the easiest way. Will most banks accept a canadian debit card or will I have to use credit? I'm staying in a cuban home and not in a hotel, so I won't have a safe or anywhere to keep my money.

There are homes in Cuba called 'casas particulares' that are legally set up to have foreigners stay there, and I have one recommended to me in a safe neighbourhood by someone trustworthy. American dollars are no longer accepted in Cuba now that the CUC currency has been put into place

I would bring Canadian cash with you, but once you get to the Cuban airport you can exchange it for convertable Peso's.... they don't accept anything but peso's. They no longer take American and i would get traveller cheques instead since you don't have a safe to store your money in because if those get stolen then you can still get your money back. It cash gets stolen then you are screwed.
Most banks will only take your visa and that is how you get an advance. But you will need your passport for that. And there are very few banks in Cuba. Don't forget that you will need 25 peso's to get out of the country, it is a tax that you pay at the airport on your way home. So convert that when you get there and keep it with you, just don't spend it. The best thing to do is put that with your passport and return ticket.

Hope you have a great time. and if you haven't been there before you bring some kind of gas and diarrhoea medicine with you like Imodium cause u will need it.
