I think this is because either your mate and her mates is jealous of you for no reason. Tell her how u feel and tell her all the things that she says which isnt true to you is letting u down. Im sure she will understand someday. Good luck if this advice helps!

If shes saying stuff that isn't true, theres no need for that, i'm not saying there is need for any of it but usually if one person in the group is having a hard time then they only decide to tell one person about it,then that 1 person feels overloaded or... like she HAS to share it with everyone else so they know the heads up.
IF ITS UNTRUE TELL HER YOU HEARD HER SAY STUFF AND MAYBE SHE'LL GET IN HER RIGHT MIND TO STOP,IF NOT DON'T TELL HER ANYTHING ELSE.
Ps; it also depends how big of a deal the stuff is.

I reckon it's hormonal.I guess gay men can be bitchy too about each other but this may be due to effeminacy.Just as men are agressive so that they can be strong enough to pass on their genes so women are bitchy towards other females. In order to increase the chance of attracting a mate, it is important to belittle the competition. It is the female pack instinct. In a way it is a back-handed compliment as it means she sees you as a threat. She may be more insecure about herself than you.

Maybe she's jealous, or just plain unhappy and wants you to feel the same. people that are down are always looking for someone to keep them comfy. I have a "friend" like that. She claims we're BFF but then she calls me names and talks major crap about me. I just started to limit my time with her.
Friends are suppose to make you feel better not break you down especially in your time of need. If she makes you feel bad, maybe you should search and ask yourself, is she still worth being friends with? Hope things get better for you. take it easy

because her friends might not like you and she wants to fit in. Or she is a chicken and wont say it to your face i would not be friends with her anymore you do not need friends like that around you. You are probably in highschool and that is just the way it is you need to find a friend who is not like that i know it is hard but you will good luck.

Obviously your young and you will soon realize that, it's just what girls do, no matter what kind of person they are, they do it, and that is why I have all guy friends, but be careful with that to because then you'll be called a "****" even when they are just your friends!

Girls are mean, and by getting popular they talk about others who might be a "friend" to them behind their backs, in hopes to be more popular. It hurts, but so does life. I never stops get used to it. Trust no one.

It seems as though your "friend" is insecure with herself and relenting this act of (stabbing friend's back) to make herself feel better about herself. Confront her with this situation maturely and make a decision from there... to continue friendship or end it.

maybe (giving her the benefit of the doubt) she is worried about you and is looking for help from other people to find a way to support you better.
on the other hand she could feel threatened by you and want other people to think she is more important
i prefer to think of the first answer!
