Moth are not really attracted to light as such, but their instinct is to fly by keeping the sun (or the moon if it is bright enough) at a certain angle to their flight path, say it is supposed to be at their 2 o'clock (forward right) fro the sake of argument. Then if they venture in an area where there is a bright light, they act as if it was the sun and try to keep it at 2 o'clock, but that means that as they get closer, they have to keep turning right until they spiral around the light. So, moths are not attracted, they are disorientated by lights.
