My grandmother passed away and my sisters and I get to pick a song to play at her funeral. I've found two: See You On The Other Side by George Strait and When I Get Where I'm Going by Brad Paisely. Does anyone know any other country songs that would be appropriate for a funeral? Thanks for the help

Going Home Funeral Song Lyrics

Of the "popular" songs Sunday Morning Coming Down, Ring Of Fire, and Hurt. The duet "Jackson" with June Carter Cash. He also did a beautiful duet with his daughter Rosanne Cash called "September When It Comes". Here are the lyrics for those who havent heard it: There's a cross above the baby's bed, A saviour in her dreams. But she was not delivered then, And the baby became me. There's a light inside the darkened room, A footstep on the stair. A door that I forever close, To leave those memories there. So when the shadows link them, Into an evening sun. Well first there's summer, then I'll let you in. September when it comes. I plan to crawl outside these walls, Close my eyes and see. And fall into the heart and arms, Of those who wait for me. I cannot move a mountain now; I can no longer run. I cannot be who I was then: In a way, I never was. I watch the clouds go sailing; I watch the clock and sun. Oh, I watch myself, depending on, September when it comes. So when the shadows link them, And burn away the clouds. They will fly me, like an angel, To a place where I can rest. When this begins, I'll let you know, September when it comes. Then there's Johnny Cash's Gospel side. There are a few of these songs that I would really say are my favorites. His album "My Mother's Hymn Book" is great! Its just him and his guitar and the old gospel hymns. I always think of him when I hear "I Was There When It Happened", "Daddy Sang Bass" and "Will The Circle Be Unbroken"

Hi, I'm really sorry to hear about your grandmother. It's know it can be really hard to choose music for such an occassion and you probably want to find music thats just right and perfect for the cermony.

I am a trained singer & regularly sing at funeral ceremonies. A popular choice is often a ballad called "Going Home". Depending on where you're from you might know this song, i.e. US - JFK's funeral or UK - an old Hovis bread commercial. I've listed the words below.

Dvorak - Going Home

Goin' home, goin' home,
I'm a-goin' home,
Quiet like some still day,
I'm jes' goin' home.

It's not far, jes' close by,
Through an open door,
Work all done, care laid by,
Gwine to fear no more.

Mother's there 'spectin' me,
Father's waitin' too,
Lot's o' folk gathered there,
All the friends I knew.

Home, home, I'm goin' home.
Nothin' lost, all's gain.
No more stumblin' on the way,
No more longin' for the day,
Gwine to roam no more.

Mornin' star lights the way,
Res'less dreams all done, all done,
Shadow's gone, break o' day,
Real life's jes' begun.

Dere's no break, ain't no end,
Jes' a-livin' on,
Wide awake with a smile,
Goin' on and on.

Goin' home, goin' home,
I'm jes goin' home,
It's not far, Jes' close by,
Through an open door,
I'm jes' goin home.

I hope you find the right music for you & your family. Sincere sympathies again.

There's a good country song that puts a positive spin on a funeral by Dave Cox. It's called Fun-eral. I think you can hear some of it at http://cdbaby.com/cd/davecox3

"I'm Movin' On" by Rascal Flatts

I've dealt with my ghosts and I've faced all my demons
Finally content with a past I regret
I've found you find strength in your moments of weakness
For once I'm at peace with myself
I've been burdened with blame, trapped in the past for too long
I'm movin' on

I've lived in this place and I know all the faces
Each one is different but they're always the same
They mean me no harm but it's time that I face it
They'll never allow me to change
But I never dreamed home would end up where I don't belong
I'm movin' on

I'm movin' on
At last I can see life has been patiently waiting for me
And I know there's no guarantees, but I'm not alone
There comes a time in everyone's life
When all you can see are the years passing by
And I have made up my mind that those days are gone

I sold what I could and packed what I couldn't
Stopped to fill up on my way out of town
I've loved like I should but lived like I shouldn't
I had to lose everything to find out
Maybe forgiveness will find me somewhere down this road
I'm movin' on

I'm movin' on
I'm movin' on

MARK WILLS Song Lyrics

Wish You Were Here
(From the album "WISH YOU WERE HERE")

Wish You Were Here

(Skip Ewing/Bill Anderson/Debbie Moore)

They kissed goodbye at the terminal gate
She said, ";You're gonna be late if you don't go";
He held her tight, said, ";I'll be alright
I'll call you tonight to let you know";
He bought a postcard, on the front it just said Heaven
With a picture of the ocean and the beach
And the simple words he wrote her
Said he loved her and they told her
How he'd hold her if his arms would reach

Wish you were here, wish you could see this place
Wish you were near, I wish I could touch your face
The weather's nice, it's paradise
It's summertime all year and there's some folks we know
They say, ";Hello, I miss you so, wish you were here";

She got a call that night but it wasn't from him
It didn't sink in right away, ma'am the plane went down
Our crews have searched the ground
No survivors found she heard him say
But somehow she got a postcard in the mail
That just said Heaven with a picture of the ocean and the beach
And the simple words he wrote her
Said he loves and they told her
How he'd hold her if his arms would reach

Wish you were here, wish you could see this place
Wish you were near, I wish I could touch your face
The weather's nice, it's paradise
It's summertime all year and there's some folks we know
They say, ";Hello, I miss you so, wish you were here";

The weather's nice, in paradise
It's summertime all year and all the folks we know
They say, ";Hello, I miss you so, wish you were here";
Wish you were here
