Money is printed at several Federal Reserve banks across the country, and in fact, paper money (as well as coins) tell you exactly where they were printed.

For instance, I am looking at a $1 bill which has a "L" in a large black circle on the left side, and a 12 on the far left. In the circle, it says it's from the Federal Reserve of San Francisco. Each letter is a code, telling where the bills are printed.

Locations: Code:
Boston - A1
New York - B2
Philadelphia - C3
Cleveland - D4
Richmond - E5
Atlanta - F6
Chicago - G7
St Louis - H8
Minneapolis - I9
Kansas City - J10
Dallas - K11
San Francisco - L12
