To some, ignorance is bliss. To others, it is a curse.

I chalk the lemming mentality up to sheer laziness. If you frequent this forum, you will quickly be able to determine who has a legitimate interest in asking and answering in a thought-provoking manner (ie, the educated ones), and "the rest of them", who instead choose to post in a way that is intended to be inflammatory, cause dissention, and basically just feed the ego of the author.

Sometimes it is genetics, sometimes it is environment. Whatever it is that causes people to have tunnel vision, be socially and civically atrophied....it certainly does nothing to promote positive change - on any level.

Why do people not think logically on their own instead of parroting what the media wants you to talk about?

most people are basically honest and when they see something on T,V, or read it in the new's papers they think it has got to be true , after all IT is illegal to lie on T,V or in the new's papers???
and they are right , but prove that they lied, how? it has been done but seldom and also you have got to have the big bucks,
when a reporter turns in a story to the editor he will filter out what he wants to and tell the populace what he wants them to know, and it is usually what he or how he wants the people to believe.
all of Americas major T.V. stations and 99%of our new's papers are owned by the Zionist, Newhouse, and they control what you hear, they don't always lie but only tell you one side of what happened, and never any thing bad about Israel or anything that
would reflect badly on the Jew's or their holdings, and I don't really blame them why should they , after all they are trying to impress the world of how right they are , if you or I owned these new's outlets we no doubt do the same, so if the people don't read between the lines and a variety of available new's sources
then they can believe what they choose, and it is usually what they hear from the major new's media.and I do know what you mean when you say people can't see the Forrest for the tree's
B,T,W, I am amazed at the good answers I have seen on this question , more than any question I have seen so far. also a very good question,

It's called brainwashing, and it works! Witness professional athletics. If that isn't the stupidest stuff ever conceived! And people actually care! We live in a totally mysterious world, surrounded with almost infinite beauty and wonder. They're are billions of questions that need to answers, burning issues that concern every human being on this planet, yet the majority of people may as well be chewing their cud. Ditto for politics. Instead of talking about the real issues, they want to pretend outrage because the best guy we've ever sent to the White House got a little head. For that they send an idiot into office who's going to cost them everything. People are easily manipulated and this thing ain't over. I call it the collective stupidity. It's a part of duel standard left over from our puritanistic heritage that capitalism and media have somehow taken advantage of. It's really pitiful.

Because the average person in any westernized civilization is too preoccupied with their own personal pleasure then to become informed and learn the facts.

Over just the last few years alone, news paper readership is way down... Network news viewing is way down. Many get all of their facts from "MTV" and "MySpace" and "comedy news programs".

Its said that the average person out there can't even tell you for sure who the at least two members of the President's cabinet are. But, these same people can surely tell you when the next Britney Spears concert is... Or who is on American Idol.

Ignorance will be the down fall of modern civilizations.

Because most people do not take the time to actually form their own opinion. It is much easier to just parrot what some talking head said on T.V. It's very easy to pick these people out... just ask them to elaborate. That's when the laughs ensue. By the way this is not endemic to one party or the other, it's just as easy to regurgitate Rush Limbaugh as it is Nancy Pelosi. You need to use your brains people, or soon the country will be 1% people who utilize their brain and 99% who can tell you who the WWE Tag Team Champions are, but not the Secretary of State.

i'm truly searching ahead to this Ashes sequence and really have not thoroughly written the Aussies off. in spite of the actuality that England ought to bypass into the sequence as overwhelming favourites via recent variety and the actual incontrovertible actuality that the sequence is being performed in England. I reckon Chris Rogers will be a touch bit a gloomy horse as he's conscious of the situations over right here quite properly. reliable to work out some pleasant banter flying round between both instruments of supporters too!

People for the most part (MY opinion here) choose news outlets that preach to their particular choir. Some of the reason has to do with laziness I suspect, while hearing their viewpoint echoed back to them re-enforces the validity of their beliefs. My method is to glean information from as many sources as I can lay my hands on and then sift through all of it using my own BS filter. I claim no allegiance to any political machine but rather prefer to make decisions based on the event and what I can find to back up whatever proclaimed "facts" have been issued.

I don't get it myself. I read everything I can get my hands on, and most of it contradicts each other. If I didn't have the Internet I wouldn't have a clue what to believe. I choose Fox News over the other News channels because I believe It gives both sides of the issues and in all my 42 years they are the first. I don't agree with every Republican on every issue, and I only agree with a couple of the Dems issues but at least I am getting the most informed opinion possible.

I have to blame our education system, that is a monkey see, monkey do world, with no real emphasis on teaching people to think on their own.
