Define traditional. I have a very non-traditional family. Every year we go out for Chinese food on Christmas Eve. We have an inflatable tree. We do not attend church. We watch Jackie Chan action movies (preferably the older and badly dubbed ones) after we open presents. And then, since we live in LA and the kiddies don't get snow, we take them to the beach to build sand-castles instead of snowmen.

Traditions are what you make of them.

our traditional Christmas was something like this - Church - presents - mom reading the Christmas Story - eating - playing games - then an evening meal - visiting and remembrances - hot chocolate - and then bedtime. suggest you talk with the " head of the family " and just plan a traditional approach as it used to be. these will bring back memories of the " old folks " and create memories for the youngun's.

Plan weeks before and pull names to buy a special gift . Call everyone together one saturday evening - provide pizza and have all the tree decorations ready to decorate. put on some of your favorite christamas songs - and after the tree is done - have eggnog & hot chocolate!

For my family it is simply getting out the decorations. Decorating the tree and the house gets us all in the mood. Even just going to family members homes and seeing their tree up and decorated is great too!
