I think, anybody who says the n word more than once is a racists. But when he said 50 years ago we would have hung you upside down and put a fork in your a**, that is really racist. That means that person had to actually think about all the bad things that have happened to black people 50 years ago and agree with it. Someone mentioned that slavery was not around 50 years ago, but it might as well have been. Some places blacks could not use the white bathrooms at those times.

My take on the incident tends to lean towards Richards having an anger management problem.
I was watching Second City TV (Saturday Night Live competition) many years ago when Richards and a new comic (Andy Kaufman) were doing a comedy skit. After laboring through his (Kaufman) lines for a few moments Richards threw a glass of water in his face. Before cut-away the stage hands were pulling the two comedians apart. It turned out that, Kaufman refused to wear his glasses while performing this skit and couldn't read the cue cards... It made Richards mad!
The real final-final answer to your question is: We are all racist to some extent. It's gotten better in the last 50 years and it will get better in the next 50 years. If we could change our beliefs in the blink of an eye we wouldn't have needed Kennedy, King or Wallace.
As for Kramer aka Michael Richards, I don't think money will fix his issue... Probably needs a royal butt kicking.

Sure he's a racist. If he was not then he would have found other ways to insult the two black audience members instead of going straight to their race. My best friend is Asian and my stepdad is white. I've been extremely pissed at both several times and their race NEVER even entered the equation. There is NO excuse for that behavior and as someone above mentioned that hatred doesn't just pop up overnight or at the spur of a moment. Obviously, this is how Michael Richards has always felt. I've always love Kramer. It's Michael Richards I can't stand!

I agree with you. If he just used n*gger, I wouldn't be so quick to label him a racist. It became racist when he made that hanging remark.
A racist can laugh at something like that and use it as a way to try to discredit a person. He was really saying: Black people were tortured from being black, so get back in your place darkie, because your opinion doesn't count.
He wouldn't of went racist on a white heckler, that's for damn sure.
I guess someone has already pointed out to you that slavery was over in the late 1800's.

Yes, but we all are. Most people have the common sense to be tactful about what we say about other races when we are around them. He let his anger expose a part of himsef that otherwise he would have kept concealed. We would all be better off if we didn't let ourselves buy into believing negative stereotypes and generalizations about each other but that is unrealistic. All we can do is try see each individual person for who they are on the inside and remind ourselves thats what really matters. We can all get along if we remeber to respect each other.

50 years ago... would have been 1956, I have news for you, slavery was abolished in 1865 thanks to the Civil War. And to answer your question, No I do not believe "Kramer" is a racist, if that had been a black person talking about white people no one would have made a big deal. And from personal experience black people tend to be one of the most ignorant and racist groups around, so using the "N" word to describe an ignorant person is perfectly fine, since the "N" word refers to an ignorant person. Added Note: in regards to your comment on my question regarding African Americans, I did in fact confront the African American woman and told her she was being ignorant and offensive to everyone around her... she really couldn't say much to me, because as you were quick to notice I am in fact a highly educated and intelligent woman. I have NO problem putting any ignorant person in their place and can use my wits to do so. Also, I am not racist, I do have many African American friends, but they are above most African Americans simply because they are educated and tolerant of other cultures and lifestyles... And in regards to me educating you on slavery all I can say is "you're welcome". It wouldn't hurt you to take a course or two on African American history, that way when you make reference to slavery etc. you won't sound ignorant... ta ta for now, but never forever

yes and i would respect it more if he admitted it and not apologize under intense presssure from political correct morons like jerry seinfeld who is also racist but hasnt been caught
everyone in america is racist and we can get along in a mature way if we just accept the fact that people want to associate with others more like themselves
all sides should admit their racism and political correctness will end and proper race relations can begin
