The first thing that you should do is optimize your site. I'm not sure what your site is about but find keyphrases NOT keywords. Keywords are too vague and not specific enough. Your key phrases should be no less than three words.

Example: If you're selling shoes online, I'd say a good keyphrase is 'buying leather shoes'. Use 'leather shoes' in your Title Tag, preferably in the beginning. Use 'leather shoes' at least twice in your Meta Tag. Get the phrase 'buying leather shoes' as close as possible to the beginning of your first sentence on your home page. The page content must have a good keyword density, not too low and not too high (if too high web crawlers will see this as spam).

Get quality links (meaning sites with high PR) from your pages. Web Crawlers judge your site by the quality of links from it. As well as links to your site. Building link popularity is an arduous task but must be done to increase PR (Page Rank).

Start a blog http://www.blogger.com is what I use and is very good. Build links from your blog as well and to your site. Be active in forums and always remember to put a link back to your site in every post.

SEO is all about keyword density, regularly updating website (web crawlers visit your site more frequently if your site is updated regularly) and link building.
