Local stores offer 4X6 prints for as little as 15 cents each. Considering you have to buy the printer dock or printer itself, the paper and the ink, is it cheaper? I'm thinking of an HP printer or a Kodak Printer dock. What do you use to print photos ?

I go online. Its only about 9 cents a picture and $1 for shipping regardless of how many pics you send in. I think if you print ALOT of pictures then it is definately to your advantage to just get your own.

Depends on what you mean by "worth it."

It's true, individual prints are cheaper if you have them made at a local shop.

The value of a home printer is in the convenience of not having to wait for prints, and in not having to pay for prints and processing you don't want.

So, unless you really love those thick packages of double prints you get and fondly take them all out and repeatedly look at them, in the long run, a home printer is a greater value.

I archive all my prints into CDs, so I'm not worried about losing my digital images.

In my opinion, No. I used to print them at home but the printer, paper, and inks costs a lot up front. I now print them from Costco for something like 18¢ a copy with good quality pictures. It is very convinence because you can upload your pictures you want to print from your home computer before you go to costco or you can drop them off at the store. You can pick them up in an hour (longer if you have lots of pictures to print like myself) or you can pick them after you finished shopping whichever is longer.

Absolutely worth it - imagine the problems explaining to the police that you didn't intend any harm by taking a memory stick full of your wifes "glamour shots" and you hope the young assistant is out of hospital soon and that his vision should get better over time if he can just wipe the hideous images from his mind.

Now you can print them in the comfort of your own home and sell them to the police later on Ebay or dish them out to Derek Akora on TV most haunted "Here Derek, that'll scare the $h!t out of you"

Do shops still exist that print photos?
I've not had one printed in a shop for about 7 years !

It's only cheaper to print at home with pictures larger than 4x6.

NO
People dont realize its not a good idea to buy a photo printer and refill the ink cartridges, its cheaper to upload them and "pick" which ones you want.

it is A LOT cheaper to print at a booth...the only advantage of printing at home is you wont have to get off your *** and drive to the store...otherwise...printers and ink are both too expensive to justify printing at home

in the long run yes it is cheaper and more convinient... look at all the watsed pictures that you will pay to develope none the less vs. just deleting them if you don't like them.
