base on the last episode i would gather that he doesn't eat the brain but he has the ability to see what makes the brain tick and he is able to manipulate and alter his own brain to match. and he has to see the brains in order to "see". and he destroys them so that no one can tell what he is doing.

Taking a guess here, but I think he eats his victims' brains. He knocked his first victim out with a paperweight, smashing his head in. There has been plenty of stories from cultures where people eat brains and they gain knowledge from their victims, so I think this may be how Sylar gains his powers.

i dont think the creators of the show would go so far as to make sylar eat brains . . . . but i also thought they wouldnt actually show him cutting that one girl's head open . . . actually, my mum and i were just disscussing this, but we couldnt come up with much of anything . . . . so eating brains is just as plausable as anything else, eh? ;D

he's good with putting clocks together to getting them to work so maybe that's his power putting stuff together weather he eats the brains then some how he mingles it with his brain keeping his power and theirs too cause if he didn't have his power he wouldn't be able to take theirs. well at least that's what i think.
