Run warm or cold iron on a piece of very fine (delicate) sand paper (keep it handy it is reusable) and wipe clean.

Heat the iron to warm, then iron over a secion of fine steel wool. Dont press too hard, or it may damage another part of the iron's surface. Wouldn't hurt to spray a little WD40 onto the steel wool, first.

Use "CLR" or the "Works" but when using either of these remember they're not used friendly, be careful. Try and not let either one run into the steam pores of the steam iron and for Pete's sake have the iron off.
