The dem's won the election. But why did they win?

Most people votted because of their hatred of Bush and the War. They voted using their animalistic emotions. This is NOT how you keep a Republic such as the one in the United States up and running.

You see. The Dems ran on nothing. No plan in Iraq, no plan on anything. We hate bush, You hate Bush. Vote 4 Dems

Thats why they won.

People of America. Most democracy and Republics of the past have fallen because people don't use rational thought when they vote, and just go on emotion.

but on the other hand.

At least this gives the Republicans time to stop being so "Right" headed, and move back to the center.

We will be back in 08

That's a simplistic view to think ONLY emotions play a role in voting last election. Face facts, it's not only the people in the US who are tired of GW and his gang. The whole world is. Tony Blair will have to leave office before his term ends mostly because of his association with bushites.

The American people have said enough with the strong-arm attitude. Bush talks about not leaving Iraq until the mission is completed. As far as I know the mission was completed when no WMDs were found. If that wasn't the mission, then he's been lying all along!

And futhermore, you cannot run a republic if you can descend my the leader's or parties position. So many republicans who did not like the direction jumped on the Bush bandwagon anyway, against the cry of their constituency. The GOP forgot, you are not their to represent your cause, but the cause of the masses. So the masses have humbled them.

You wishing you'll win in 08 with McCain I guess. I hope the American people remember that McCain was a POW, who initially came out against torture, after lunch with GW, he was all for it. Such a SHAME!

I think Americans voted the way they did because the Republicans let them down, the Reps proved to spend and spend and spend, they did nothing to stop Bush from doing whatever he wanted, and so the Bill of Rights was gutted.
I dont' know how the Dems could have had a plan, when the people who initiated the action never made one, and worse, based their predictions of an easy win on air and nothing in anyway substantial.
No matter what the people told their leaders, the leaders refused to hear them. And so they were voted out, and that is the essence of democracy

Sorry, I don't hate Bush. The Congress was providing no oversight to Bush. The Congress was corrupt on a scale never seen before. The Congress was spending money like drunken sailors. The Bush administration is and was screwing up the occupation in Iraq. Independents, Democrats and republicans voted for democrats to put a check on the republicans and Bush -- a very rational decision.

After the investigations Congress will do in the next two years, you will lucky if you're back by 2020.

I do not think emotions were a Part in this. The war has lasted longer than our involvement in WWII with no end in sight, the economy sucks unless you are in the richest 1% of the population, our rights have been taken away in the name of security, and Congress is so corrupt that it could not be hidden anymore. Americans are sick of all this and want change. Maybe the Dems aren't the answer but they are the only choice we have now and voting for them will, hopefully, bring about a change for the better. If not we can change things again in 2 years until they get it right.

I disagree with your basic premise. Is it really just emotions leading people to the pols when people have rational reasons to dislike or hate Bush? People don't see us making progress in the war in Iraq (or Afghanistan, for that matter). People see our national deficit skyrocket. They don't agree with the plans that the republicans have for our future as a country. Therefore, they voted for the alternative, the democrats, who (to agree with you on this one point) didn't really have a plan, but people figured, at least they weren't the republicans. It's actually quite rational. You don't think of it as such because it doesn't follow YOUR rationale, but just because something seems reasonable to you doesn't mean it's reasonable to other people.

"At least this gives the Republicans time to stop being so "Right" headed, and move back to the center."

This is why people voted the way they did. Because it was leaning too far right. Now the pendulem will swing back the other way. Then it will swing back. The swinging is what makes the country strong.

Not exactly.

Given the artifical fury of gay marriage,I would say Republicans and conservatives are equally good at voting emotionally.

The Dems ran on accountability and getting rid of corruption. To some people that IS "something".
