one indian psychiatrist DR INDLA RAMA SUBBA REDDY STATED THAT THE SUICIDAL TENDENCIES ARE MORE IN ATHEISTS THAN IN BELIEVERS. IS IT CORRECT? IS THERE ANY DATA TO SUBSTANTIATE IT? IF IT IS CORRECT WHAT ARE THE REASONS?

Yes, I believe there was a study done on this. I can't remember the specifics, but it found that people in groups (i.e. religion, the army, etc.) were less likely to commit suicide due to feeling highly connected to others. I can't remember the name of the study, though, sorry!

EDIT:

That is Emile Durkheim's suicide study that I was thinking about.

I don't know specifically, but I've noticed that people of faith tend to be far more inclined toward depression after a major tragic event because of a feeling their deity has forsaken them. We athiests tend to believe there was no-one there to forsake us, so we had a bit of a heads-up that bad things would happen to us.

maybe, but just because christians believe suicide is a sin and that if you do it you won't go to heaven, and obviously atheists don't...so one less thing to stop them from doing it.
