yes you can...what you need is a video card with "video in" or a tv-capture card.

here is a site that offers them and tutorials on how to do it

You would need a "capture card" which will allow you to hook the VCR to the back of your computer. Then, using the software that comes with the card, play the tape into the computer. (It takes one hour to record one hours worth of tape). Once done, you can burn the captured video to DVD for later viewing.

Be aware that capturing video takes a LOT of hard drive space and an above average computer with lots of memory.

Good luck....

put the vhs tape in the vcr with a cable that connects to the computer from the vcr. I think you need a special cable. Go to a photographer and ask if they can put it into a cd and that is much easier, with a dvd burner of course.

yes, i did this. you need cables to connect VCR to computer AND some type of software for video capture. It works but i go tired of messing with it that way so i bought a VCR/DVD recorder and dubbed them.

while not having all Hyped-techno lunatic on you right here the finest thank you to try this's to easily make a DVD of the video and take that DVD to any of the 40-thousand forms of DVD gamers available and play it with a VHS recorder plugged into the Video / Audio out of the DVD participant on an analogous time as the Video /Audio in is going to the VHS recorder --- push play on the DVD participant and record on the VHS recorder ---and ZAP ZAP ZOOWIE---a VHS replica is created !!!!
