When I am writing a novel, I have an idea ready and everything. I tend to get a chapter into it, and then I forget about, everyday I think about it but never actually write more. [I write on WordPerfect, not on paper. Some people suggest that I write it all on paper first, very sloppy and without good grammar, etc.]
Anyhoo, does anyone have tips for me, so I can become interested in writing the story I start writing?

Is it because the story isn't really what I want to write?

[p.s. one of my stories had people named after my ex boyfriend and I, and after we broke up I never got back to it. Is this because I don't feel obliged to write in it anymore now that he's not in my life?]

Andie first learn why it is that you want to write don't write for others sake or because of someone else write for your own contentment they can be triggers for a story but not the reason that you right. Put each of your characters on 3x5 note cards and then look at them from time to time. Since you are working on the computer that always you to be else where and still think about your story. Develop a habits of writing everyday for what ever length of time it appropriate for your schedule then stick to it. Writing like other art forms is a discipline and that is just what it take discipline yo say you want to write, then do it and watch what happens to your stories then

You've answered your own question, if you really want to write something, grammar and spelling put to one side , your words will just flow onto the page, and then you will go back over it and correct your mistakes. Is it because the story isn't really what I want to write? You said, that's it in one.
When I am writing I can see the end and the beginning, how I get to the end of the story can be a torturous route but I know where the story is going. I hope that this helps you.

I'm not a novel writer, wouldn't accually call myself much of any kind of writer, but I do write. And I do it all the time in a notebook that is bigger than a grocery pad but smaller than a regular notebook. It fits into my purse and it's always with me. And then I can write everything i want, and if there is something that is part of a bigger project than it's there and I can edit it later and move on with the story faster.Who cares if you never finish, do you write for other people or yourself? Cool if you get something published but if you never did, I would hope that all your writing was because you liked to write, not because you expect to get fame from it. So your story of the boyfriend ended like the relationship- how fitting, that in itself is the story, story of you.

I'm also a would-be writer, and I have trouble with my characters and plot lines shooting off every which way. So one day I bought a small spiral notebook and actually wrote down a very rough outline so I could weed out the extra material. It was a huge help!

When you're writing your 'outline', don't worry about grammar or spelling: That's for when you actually write the story.

As for the story you started with your ex boyfriend- well, you can always change your character names! A few of mine have been changed like that several times.

Good luck! Here's wishing for a best-seller!

Thing is, if you're not interested in telling the story, then nobody is very likely to be interested in reading it. So sounds like you just haven't got the story you want to tell. Yet.

As for the boyfriend, maybe you've nothing else to say about the relationship. Or maybe you are still dumbstruck. Only you know which it is.

Good luck anyhow!

Just play the entire thing out in your head every night before you go to sleep. Make it fun and like one of your dreams. Whenever you get bored, just think on it! And most of all, if it is not a plot you find amusing, don't write it.

You need to get a small tape recorder.
