It's grating on my eardrums. Even the lame Notre Dame fans had "Beat Southern Cal" on t-shirts. (And we see how much that helped!) I don't like it! I think I'm going to start calling them "Ohio Sta."

BTW, UMass, UConn, Ole' Miss, Cal, etc. have been officially adopted by the schools themselves.
At USC, it's officially either "USC," "University of Southern California," or "Southern California." In fact, the University also has an official policy denouncing the use of "Southern Cal.
So, a more analogous situation would be calling Harvard "Harv" as that hame has not officially been adopted by the school.

For God's sake, USC folks say Southern Cal all the time on TV. Californians use a number of abbreviated versions of the state name all the time in daily conversation.

Because a lot of schools have abbreviations. And my uncles friend graduated from USC (i hate him and all freakin southern Californians) and he calls it "Southern Cal."

We call california "cal".....im gonna start calling them "sou ca" just to piss you off...besides ohio state will kill them!!
