I was asked a question the other day that got me thinking. A guy friend of mine asked me how do you know you truly love someone. I gave him the reasons I thought were right to me and he said I was wrong.

So I am interested in hearing from other individuals, how do you know you are truly in love and what constitutes love? Now there is a difference between infatuation and love. I think we all know this.

It sounds like a dumb question but I felt as if I got a dumb response to his question for me.

Well, there have been many times when I thought I was in love. I realize now that those times were more about infatuation or courtship that was all about what we could get from each other.

I'm with someone now who I feel completely different about. We communicate well, which I think is key in a successful relationship. We are able to talk about difficult subjects without embarrasment or hard feelings. We have many things in common, but also have separate interests. We are very honest with each other and don't keep things from each other that might be im[portant to the other person.

All these things are important if a relationship is going to last, but you can have a relationship that has all these things without being in love.

I think I am in love now. My siginifigant other makes me feel important, but also makes me feel like I'm able to care for him and be cared for. We are considerate of each other without having to ask. We are able to read each other very well, and are friends before we are lovers. Being lovers is really just a perk. A very good perk.

The most important thing, I think, of how to tell you are in love is if you really care abouit the person's well-being- if you do things and help them achieve their goals with no thought to how it will benefit yourself and if they do the same for you.

I have heard that love fills the five sense. If you love the look, smell, touch, sound, and taste of the person you could fall in love with them. Love also last through time. Wait a year or so and if you still feel the same way its more than infatuation.

love is a emotion that makes you feel all warm in side and when you are around the one that you love you get like really happy and your whole is all about talking to him and seening what he did today or what he is doing this weekend.......and you can not think about anything else expcpete what you all are going to do after school or after work or when ever you see.....and love is something that gets stonger over time or it does not you can just make someone love you.....you have to let the right guy come to you don't go looking for him becasue you find so many heartaches along the way...love is not somethin that just say to someone.....You actaully feel that you and person have concetted in a way and you want to be with them for the rest of your life......that is what i feel that love is...that is the only way i know how to explain it in words that is....

It's simple to me - love is when you want put the other person before yourself in all instances. It's called altruistic love and studies have proven that the longest-lasting relationships are built on this concept.

For example, a former bf of mine would always want my leftovers from restaurants. He asked me if I wanted them and I said, "Yes, I do want them, but I love you and I want you to have them." Silly example, but I think it's a better explanation than wanting to be with someone all the time because that's for YOU and not them.

I have put love in to so many words that it's pathetic.I figure the only way you know you love
someone is by your actions, like doing things for that person you have never for someone else.
To me it's things you really dont have to think
about,it makes you feel good to please your partner unconditionally,I would say don't listen to your friend on how you percieve love, how love is expressed to you,is how it should be showed to another.

love is different to everyone. to me it is a combo of things.. look at the person.. would you want to spend the rest of your life with them seeing them every minute of everyday.... does your gut rip out when you think of never being with them again..when you see another guy do you think what life would be like with him...those are just some of the ways i think you can tell..
