No one ever really owns the land, it belongs to the government, and we pay them for the use of it and allow bankers to hold liens upon them until we have them paid off.

I am going to expand from the answer above. It is true no one truly owns their land as when there is no heir the land would revert back to the state. This comes to from the common law of the King as the King owned all of the land and would grant title. With this title he would collect taxes on the lands, but above all the King could take title away just like the government.

In Texas......We call them "Ranches". My spread is 800 acres with 400 head of cattle.
