Most spies jobs are really boring - no running around shooting stuff, just lots of analytical work.

Saying that, if you do want a job in the intelligence services, learning lots of languages, particularly arabic, chinese or urdu, would be useful.

I wouldn't call James Bond a "spy." Doesn't he usually just have to stop some madman intent on destroying or ruling the world? A true spy gathers information, either remotely using electronic methods, or by actually integrating him/herself with the target. In either case, the spy has to know the target language, but the undercover spy must be fluent and speak flawlessly without any trace of accent. They must also be willing to live in the target area for months or even years at a time, unable to see or even contact their family or friends at home. Electronic methods of spying include intercepting everything from radio broadcasts to cell phone calls, or examining satellite imagery for signs of suspicious activity, such as, oh, I don't know, a plant in Iran bringing in weapons-grade plutonium for their "energy program."

Being James Bond would be amazing. All the most beautiful ladies flocking around, cool cars and working abroad. So long as you didn't mind the being tortured, blown up, shot at and garroted.

Most surveillance positions are people recruited from the military and colleges. They have to pick you out, not the other way around. But applying at the CIA is a way to get noticed. Go to College, become fluent in foreign languages, get into acting, and then join the military into a MOS that requires a high security clearance.

To be a spy would mean no friends you can count on.their a liablity in the business. No family, unless you wanted them all used against you.Your emotions would be buried deep, because the thinks you would have to do would haunt you.Your soul would not be yours.The movies make them look good so you will go and watch.The high socity you see is rare.The darkside is what is the reality here.Think of the worst...Then you will know that there is even worst then that.
One guy ask me if I could kill a child and lovely mother.I replied not sure.He told me that I would never make it out of the romm alive.When even the infromation your comitted to the job no matter what.Also to watch my back, because more then likely there is someone aslo there to do me after my job is done.
So think be fore you say...What a great job...No friends...No family...No relationships...No feelings.Death...your already dead, you just haven't been buried jet.

It would not be like James Bond. It would be more research and analysing data. The "spies" in the field would not be a so high profile like James Bond.
