I had 4 of the tendons on my hand severed! Boy, that was not funny....I went to therapy for six months, and then I got Silly Putty, and a medium-hard ball. I would work it whenever.....now I am fine. Of course that was a while back, but I am up to speed on everything (actually was 2 years after the accident). WORK IT!!
You can also try, screwing and unscrewing bottle caps, buttoning clothes, anything that MOVES your thumb in coordination with other fingers.
Good Luck!

Take your thumb and touch the tip of each of your fingers on that hand. Start with the index and just go down the line multiple times a day. Then move to touching the base of each finger with your thumb. I was told to do that after I dislocated my thumb. It was supposed to stregthen the muscle or something and then get the thumb moving the way it used too. Good luck

Work it throughout the day in circular motions and back and forth, side to side. I have had a simular surgery on my thumb. I still highly suggest that you go to a therapist also.

Well, that's not very smart...not going to therapy. Why did you even bother getting the surgery if you aren't going to follow through with it? You have to go to PT. You will never regain the full use of it if you don't.
