I think Iraq needs to figure that out for itself. And religious separation does work - look at the break down of what used to be called Greater Serbia or the former Austo-Hungarian Empire.

And what do we do when there are people from one religion living in an area where the dominant religion is something else?
I don't think it would work because of the way the oil reserves are. Shiites live in the southern area of oil and the Kurds live in the northern area of oil. The Sunni would be left with an area around Baghdad where there is no oil. And at present it seems the Sunni are the ones causing most of the trouble.
Chechoslovakia was split and there was ethnic cleansing abounding. Saraevo the site of the winter olympics years back was almost totally destroyed as a result.

Yes the north for the Kurds, the south for the Sunnies & the middle for the Shiites. Thes areas are where most of the people have lived for years. It worked in No. & so Viet Nam (1 country now ) the breaking up of the USSR.It can work in Iraq as long as outsiders from other Arab states leave them alone. But I am worried about Iran & Syria. They may have other plans for the region.

Even if they become 3 separate countries, there's no guarantee that one won't invade the others. U.S. & Iraq are 2 different countries, and?

Split by whom? If that's what the Iraqis want, fine. If it isn't, fine. Although some seem to have forgotten, it is THEIR country.

No. I think Iraq should be nuked, along with Syria, Iran and Lebanon. Then pave them over and make a parking lot.

no. i think people should learn how to keep religion personal, as it is meant to be. a person's relationship with their god should be kept to themselves, and not a driving force in everything they do.
