an interesting question - you are so right - there are no shops of note in Aberdeen, all shopping is done through barter with lowlanders, assistants do not wear kilts, but the doric equivalent of 'breeks', often with 'nicky tams' and a 'bunnet'.
we are fortunate in that we can use the internet with our 'doricmultilingual translator' or 'iwyewibackspeirinabootcomers'
onywye-am awa tae hunt puddocks, haggii and horny gollachs - fit rare and then eat a fine piece wi a fly cup, affa fine

Where do you come from? Must be someplace with padded walls if you really think in this day & age that the city that is Europe's oil capital (Aberdeen) has no decent shops. Where do you think all those oil wives spend their husband's money? As for kilted shop assistants, maybe one or two in kilt hire shops but thats all.

Aberdeen has an excellent shopping centre. In addition to the usual "High Street" names, it has a significant number of independent retailers. Well worth a day out (and I live 200 miles away!)
Yes, you will find the kilt worn in some shops in Scotland, but, no, not by every male assistant.

Ive been to Aberdeen loads of times and they have all the regular high street shops and department stores that you get in cities. Ive never seen any shop assistants wearing kilts there!

I have to laugh whenever I see a question like this.
Aberdeen like alll of the other cities in Scotland have proper shops like Marks and Spencers, Dorothy Perkins, Monsoon etc and they all wear ythe uniforms given - none of which are kilts.
The people dress in jeans and suits just like evrywhere else and kilts are mainly worn at special ocassions i.e. weddings.
No one runs through the hills in their kilt chasing a haggis with a set of bagpipes under their arm either. :-)

I cannot believe that you have been told that! I have only seen one male shop assistant wearing a kilt, and that was in Saltire Fashions.
