This happens with any torrent client I use. I'm using it on Windows Vista RC1 but I've heard of this problem elsewhere.

I have a 3MBit(up)/512Kbit(Down) connection. Let's say my torrent is downloading at 64KBytes/sec (512 Kbits). Why is it that all computers on the network (including my own), their internet slows to a very slow crawl. And I look and I'm using upwards of 1.5MBits to 2 Mbits. Where is all this extra bandwidth coming from?

It stops as soon as I stop the torrent(s).

It's not a bandwidth issue, it's a software issue. Without a change in bandwidth usage in the torrent this problem may or may not happen. At one point the torrent will be moving along at the same rate but all of a suddent my used bandwidth will be greater.

Don't forget that torrents work both ways. If you are downloading a torrent, then someone else may be uploading what you already have downloaded from you. that's the idea behind peer-sharing networks and torrents in particular. And though your connection may claim to be a 3MB connection, you usually don't get that much of a pipeline so your torrents are choking out all of the other traffic for the comps on your network.

i have self belief the bittorrent protocol makes use of tcp port 6681. that ought to observe for plenty of the numerous bittorrent consumers, although that they are going to likely observe and easily replace the ports. i have self belief some routers have the skill to limit get entry to on a software with the help of software foundation. you may favor to envision into this.
