OK... let's start at the top, I've answered all the one's I know:

Santa Clause, Elfs?
Santa Clause is a corrutpion of the dutch Sinter Klause or Saint Nicholas, patron saint of Children.
some say elves come into play here because some of Odin's attributes are found in the santa mythos and Odin was the king of the Elves as far as the Norse are concerned and what's an Elf King without elves?

Is it mentioned in the Bible?
Read the book of Luke in the new testament.

If so, is it positive or negative?
It's a general story of the first nativity. Luke seems to have tried to be objective.

Was Jesus even born at Xmas time?
Scientists and theoligions alike are now agreeing that Jesus couldn't have been born in Bethlehem's vicious winter and was most likely born in the springtime.

Is it the nicest or the worst time of year?
My opinion, I like winter well enough, but I do prefer spring and summer.

Were there only three wise men (magi)?
At least there are only three mentioned in the bible's telling of it but they're not wisemen.. they were Kings named Balthazar, Gaspar, and Melchior.

Do Shepherds abide flocks in the field at Christmas?
Not in Bethlehem. The winters are far too cold.

Is the aftermath of Christmas generally positive or negative?
I think that generally depends on the individual's outlook.

I was fortunate that my pa explained Santa Claus long before I started grade school. He told the truth, Santa really was him, my ma, my grandparents, aunts and uncles that put all those presents under the tree. I was always the bad apple that made the rest of the kids cry because I told them Santa wasn't real, it was their parents. This happened all the way up to 5th grade. I've never gotten into the "spirit" of Christmas because of the gross commercialism, the greed and the false religious teachings (Jesus was not born on Dec 25). I don't like seeing all the wrapping paper, cards, boxes and junk from this holiday filling landfills to overflowing either. And why would someone cut down a living tree just to have it stand in their living room for two or three weeks and then just toss it out?

As far as when Christ was born, most scholars admit now that he was born nowhere near Xmas, but likely in the springtime. The reason Xmas was started was to convince those who followed Winter Solstace and related winter celebrations to embrace Christianity
