I strongly recommend the following web site: http://www.whitehouse.gov/history/presidents , and http://ap.grolier.com/article?assetid

He also gained tremendous respect as the first President of the Treasury. During his time there, the "revenuers" were supposed to head out to ships coming to our shores with goods and determine a "tax" on those goods. However, these "revenuers" turned out to be nothing more than Pirates! They would not only collect monies, but also confiscate the goods they just taxed!! This infuriated Jackson, who took this lesson to the White House and determined that the various offices in the Legislature should rotate to deserving individuals AND he wanted to eliminate the Electoral College....which is the MAIN reason we have had a "Federal Republic" in this country all this time and NEVER a true "Democracy".

He stood his ground with wisdom and sensibility. When it came time for him to step down from the Presidency, he was determined to have Van Buren become the next President......this was met with ignorant jeers.....Jackson won in the end and Van Buren, was indeed, the next President!

We could surely use one like him in office NOW!

My opinion!
