To let the babies listen to music. Science has shown that if a pregnant mother reads to her unborn child or puts headphones on her stomach and lets the baby listen to music it will be more smarter than a child who's mother didn't read to it in the womb or didn't let it listen to music.

I have 3 kids and I have never done that.

My last pregnancy I had read that the developing fetus responds to a flash light. So I used a flash light against my belly to see if it worked and it did. Just to make sure it wasn't luck I tried it over and over again only to find my son doing a little jig inside my belly.

I suppose headphones must work much like when you hear sounds underwater when you are swimming. Fetuses, even though in the womb, respond to stimulation.

An unborn child can hear what is going on outside of the womb but some people and some studies have suggested that listening to certain types of music can make your unborn child smarter. So this is one reason. Any other reason i can think of would be that maybe they have a recording of someones voice that they would like their child to become accustomed to.

Babies can't really hear the song that's being played through the headphones. But, they can feel the vibrations of the music and that can be calming to them. Everybody loves music. Even babies in their momma's belleh :)

unborn babies love music, they get used to tunes. I think its lovely. I often wonder if babies that are born and turned out into monsters actually listen to loud heavy metal music while in the womb. Makes you think!
