Based on truth or lies?
Fact or speculation?
At any rate I've heard it's an entertaining film.

Based on lies. The "facts" that Dan Brown used are written hundreds of years later. The methods historians use to give credibility to their finds says that the Bible is a more reliable source of history than these more recent ones. If Jesus was married, the Bible would've mentioned it. Marriage is a wonderful thing to God. He wouldn't hide it.

It is speculation based on some facts. Nobody knows if it's the truth or not - but it could very well be the truth.

Yes, it is an entertaining movie

watched the film, it is interesting,
However some of it is based loosely on facts. Da Vinci did often hide things in his paintings, but I have heard too many art specialists say that the reason the person on the right side of Jesus in the last supper painting, looked so feminine was due to it being John the Beloved and he was supposed to be young. young enough to possibly have some feminine features. Besides, if it was Mary, where was the 12th deciple??

Any way, they have not found the little secret code box, and they have not found Mary Magdalene's grave either.

So it is a very interesting movie, but none the less, a movie.

It's a good movie and even better book.
I believe there is some truth, as far as the Catholic sect Opus Dei and some of the practices...that is what I have heard.
I honestly believe parts of the movie - I believe Christ could have been married, just because the bible doesn't say he was doesn't mean he wasn't. Also, I am LDS and we believe marriage is a law of God and that you cannot enter the Celestial Kingdom without being eternally married - Christ came to fulfill all law so of course I believe if he wasn't married then, he will be at some point, even though I really believe he was. My mother-in-law has her own theory about the wedding Jesus attended where he turned the water into wine - she thinks it was his own wedding. But who knows...
An interesting point that Tom Hanks character brings up though is IF Jesus was married and had children, why would that make him any less divine? That is a good point. It seemed like the point of the movie was to make Christ out as a normal man BECAUSE he had children...
Anyways, it was a good fiction book and movie.

Brown's books are based on some historical facts with speculation tossed in for an exciting mix. His books are great and make you think....
Anything is possible, the movie is brief compared to the book (book has more detail)...both are worth the time tho.
I do not believe every word in the Bible...I believe in God and think that the Bible is basically - stories passed down through generations explaining the hows and whys of the world...kind of like Greek or Roman mythology

Particularly, I found myself enjoying, but only ONCE...because I cannot imagine myself watching it over and over and over again like I do with other ENTERTAINING AND MEANINGFUL movies!
*I am CHRISTIAN so my instant thought was : Superstitions"
but I was wrong, half of these film was in "ITALIAN" which is basically related to Latin (spanish) and my doctrine is similar to theirs...Catholism is NOT wrong, but I figured their 'ideas' are just mixed up a little that is all....I mean what the heck does Da VInci have to do with 'JESUS'? why on earth would he actually paint a freakin' LADY MAGDALENE in his painting of "Last Supper"? but other than that it keeps you guessing and wondering about what could and might happen next...which I totally love!
these movies are similar:
*The Butterfly Effect
*Man On Fire
*The Jacket
*Cruel Intentions
*Running Scared
*Phone Booth
*The Omen
*The Forgotten

It's definitely not fact based...Too many behind the scenes shows with scholars and other smart people proved it wrong..

But more important than that...It was about as entertaining as watching the grass grow!! Or watching golf, synchronized Swimming or any other really boring event..

I LOVED the film.
I saw the film then read the books afterward.
I think it's based on fact.
But that's just MY opinion.
I truly enjoyed it.
