It was Bill Hicks who pointed out "Non-smokers die every day".
Don't know who 'invented' tobacco though. It comes from a plant.
That's like asking "Who invented coffee?"

Bob Newhart did a monologue on Sir Walter Raliegh.Part of it was tobacco and another part was about the potato.
