I didn't have a breech baby, but I did have a C-Section. It's not so bad. I went through the whole labor with no pain medication which was incredibly stupid now that I look back, but in the end I had to have a c-section because the baby was to big. I got this needle in my spine. It was really hard to sit still (which you must) because I was getting contractions one on top of the other, but once the drug kicked in, you feel absolutely nothing at all and it was complete bliss, I have to say!!! When they cut you open, you feel absolutely nothing, just a bit of tugging when they're pulling the baby out and stitching you back up. Then they give you some really good pain meds so your belly shouldn't hurt too much. After having the meds for a couple days straight though I was starting to feel a bit nausious (but everyone is different), so they had to switch me over to just advil. The pain was still not bad but it did hurt a little more when trying to walk around. They kept me in the hospital for 4 days. When I came home, the pain was mostly gone and I just kept taking Advil. The recovery takes about 6 weeks. And when they say no lifting, they mean it!! Trust me! I started feeling bad getting everyone to do everything for me and I tried to vaccum and I paid for it later that day!! anyways...enough blabbing. It's really not that bad. It's a little frustrating but the time goes by quickly cause you're so busy admiring your new baby, you forget to worry about anything else.

I have had two c-sections now, the first was ecause my son was breech, the second because they needed to take the baby early. It was incredibly scarey the first time because I had never had surgery before and just really didn't have a clue what to expect. I had a super rough recovery the first time and had an infection so was pretty laid up for several weeks. This time was much easier as far as the recovery went.
In the operating room you will be given either an epidural or spinal block (your spouse or coach will probably not be allowed in until you are ready for surgery) then they will give you oxygen and lay you out like a crucifix. It's a little bit scarey but try to relax and just breathe. The first c-section for me went smoothly, the second time I started to vomit and they gave me medicine through the IV that stopped it immediately. You will probably be able to see your baby within a minute or two of them taking it out as long as everything is OK.
When you are in the recovery room they will help you start to breastfeed if you choose to, you won't have control over your body but the nurse will put the baby on for you. You may get the "shakes" where your old body shivers like it's cold. The first c-section I had they didn't give me anything for it (it was miserable) the second they put Demerol in the IV to stop them (much better!).
You will be better off if you try to get up as soon as you can (within 24 hours of surgery) it will hurt like you wouldn't believe but it really does speed recovery and prevent blood clots.
I hope all goes well for you and if you have any questions or would like some support please feel free to email me, I'd be happy to help :)

RELAX! It's not as bad as all the anti c-section people make it out to be! I would recommend having someone with you at ALL times for about the first 3-4 days home. It's hard to get around and to do a few things, but it will be okay. By about 2 weeks after it, I was up and about with only some minor pain. If you're not breastfeeding, they will give you pain meds (AND TAKE THEM)! It keeps the edge off. Make sure you have some nice ice packs on hand for the swelling and discomfort. Also, buy some Depends! When you are in pain and bleeding worst than the worse period you EVER had, worrying about whether you are leaking on the couch just isn't good! Plus, it's easier to adjust than a huge pad you'll need. I know it sounds dumb, but my mom suggested it and it was a LIFESAVER! Hmmm, otherwise, relax and enjoy your baby!! I am having my second c-section in May! GOOD LUCK!!!
P.S. Leave your jewelry at home, even wedding rings because they make you remove everything! I was so worried about my wedding set....I was near tears! Email me if you have anymore questions, happy to chat!

I had the same thing happen in Jan 2006, as long as you have 120% trust in your Doc you will do an be Fine. You will need to stay in the Hospital 2-3 Nights Depending on how fast/Slow you recover. I was freaked out too, so i feel your pain. Hang in there it will be Ok !!
Dont let the "C-section" Freak you out , things have changed BIG time over the past years in that area. My doc did my C-section with a laser , an my scar is very small. Also see if there going to use Disovable Sitiches , there soo much better , i had em .
Congrats !!

The recovery is slower with a C-section and can be painful. However you will have pain medication and sometimes it just depends on how your body heals. It took me a good week before I really felt up to par after my C-section but I didn't have to go through the pain of childbirth either. You'll do great though.
good luck

a version, the technique they do to coach the baby, has its own set of disadvantages. fairly if it is your first infant. with low amniotic fluid, there is not any longer plenty there to cushion the cord or the baby, which makes attempting to rigidity the baby to coach extra risky than it already is. i've got seen some variations, and that they continuously have failed. numerous circumstances the baby turns, they positioned the ultrasound on and watch the baby turn impressive decrease back. there's a large variety of disadvantages with a version, fetal dying being for sure the main worrisome. a vaginal beginning is spectacular, yet your infant seems to offer different plans. it merely relies upon on what disadvantages you're prepared to take. to me, the advantages are no longer very well worth the disadvantages. a c-area particularly isn't so undesirable.

I have had two c-sections, and I can easily say that they are not as bad as you may think, but I can understand your apprehension. The best advice I can give you is to request pain medication and follow the nurse/doctor's advice and orders to the letter. Also, what helped me my second time around is that I started walking as soon as I was able to get up out of bed. The more you move around, the faster you heal.

As soon as you wake up in the recovery room ask for pain killers cause it does hurt, and it's the worst when they ask you to move into another bed, that sucks.... but the more you move around and get up the quicker you heal but don't overdue yourself, they will give you exercises to do and what you can and can't do. It will hurt to get up and to laugh and to sneeze but after a few weeks that does go away, they will give you something to relieve the pain. It is sort of harder to get around and when you are in the hospital you will need help like to pull the baby to you and stuff and to help you get out of bed. Good Luck and Congradulations!!

OMG. I feel your pain! well, sort of. I am 31 weeks and I am PRAYING like there is no tomorrow that he will flip before I go into labor. Our hospital won't even consider a vaginal deliver with a breech.
I've heard that sections aren't as bad as what you would think, although...being sliced open...well, how can it not be?
I would TOTALLY follow the discharge instructions, though. If they say NO LIFTING...then don't do it. No driving....don't do it. Do what they tell you and make no exceptions.
