Those fake guitars you see on eBay and stuff are sometimes so close to the real thing that one has to rely on specific machining anomolies that each brand has. In addition, taking the guitar apart and looking at the inner workings will usually be a dead giveaway.

properly, if it says Fender you're probable ok mostly, till you acquire a shady guitar from a shady human being. Walmart guitars have a tendency to appear as if Fenders and performance a similar setup- it truly is, the 5 way change and the whammy bar, besides because the needed structure. If it doesn't say Fender someplace on the guitar, it isn't a Fender, maximum in all probability.

Fender guitars can be made in a variety of places...USA, Mexico or China. All Fenders stamp their name on the headstock. Also, Fender has a patented headstock design. This isn't to say that someone wouldn't copy it though.

A "real" one says "Made in America" on the head-stock below the word Fender. Although, the ones made out of the U.S. are real Fenders, and play well, they just don't have the re-sale value of one made here.(They are assembled using the same specs, but I don't think their assemblers have the same sense of pride in their work as one of us building it would put into it).

Did it come with paperwork from fender? You can take it to the local guitar store and they should be able to tell you. Contact www.fender.com they may have some particular things you can check.

You can always spot a fake by looking at the serial code. There are websites that can help you discover if it's a fake by looking at the serial codes.
