Is there anything that I should keep an eye out for? Security is a concern.

Best thing for personal internet security is a NAT router. So long as you don't install any spyware or adware infected programs or applications from unknown sources the NAT router will stop bad traffic on the net from even seeing your computer. I recommend the Linksys WRT54G

Yes, you should have a firewall and an anti-virus program. I use Norton Internet Security (has both), but McAfee and some others also make good products. I would also suggest getting some anti-spyware/anti-adware programs. You need more than one of these, since I (and many others) have found that one just doesn't get them all. I use LavaSoft's AdAware, Spybot Search and Destry, and Windows Defender. With those three plus Norton I have pretty well been able to keep my computer clean.
If you don't you will have a virus, and the tons of adware/spyware will slow your computer and internet connection back down to dial-up speeds in no time!

yes very many. frist thing if you are connected to the internet all the time on your computer everyday or almost every day i would install at least 2 firewalls. if its connected for a short time like 2 hours a day you only should need one. also i would get some antivirus software so that when a virus attacts your computer the software will tell you and stop it. also when your not using the internet on your computer like browsing sites or downloading watch how much KB is coming to your computer and from your computer. if its alot then chances are your computer is doing some thing you dont want it to do or it could also mean that your firewall or antivirus software is updating but when it is check to see if it is. also let me give you a tip. if you ever get a warning about somthing infecting your system 32 files. next time you boot your computer up it may not start windows at all so watch out.

hope this answers your question

You defiantly need a firewall and an antivirus and some spyware software too.
If you don't mind paying I suggest Panda Internet Security 2007.
If you want something free go to www.download.com and get zonealarm firewall and avg antivirus. Both are free and they are pretty good. Also while you are there get ad-aware se personal and spybot for spyware.
If you never turn your computer off you are constantly connected so you need good protection.

yes, install a firewall and make sure that it is a secured connection... other people will try and ride your bandwidth.
