I have to do my homework. the question is: "You are a mamber of Turkey who does not want to join the EU. Explain why.

Turkey is a secular country with a Muslim population, and during the conversion Turks have adapted further into European ways, leaving behind their old Arabic culture. Joining the EU may be a step too far. European values, where becoming increasingly common are detaching Turkey from its past. Focus on the moral and religious differences between the east and west. Also bear in mind the changes Turkey has already had to make to be considered for EU status. Execution has been outlawed after centuries and human rights issues have had to be readdressed. Basically their government are now bowing to a higher power, and what government would like that?

Turkey is a complex country, Western Turkey is like Europe in fact West Istanbul looks like Dallas Texas. The people are sophisticated and modern. They are now one of the major car producers.
Eastern Turkey is like a century past with peasant farmers and is typical of a third world country and very Islamic.
The government rules only with the proxy of the military.
It would take 20 years for Turkey to sort itself out to comply with EU requirements.
But they have special concessions and receive hugh grants from the EU. Currently any Turkish project outside Turkey is given a 50% EU cash grant.

because turkey is in the middle east and generally doesnt get along with some of the countries in the EU, and a lot of the countries in the EU dont want you in the EU anyway, plus I dont think they meet the standards to join the EU anyway

I never heard of any other backward country with questionable human rights records not wanting to join the EU.
Most turks are screaming for membership.Of course , they will be able to support france in its efforts to bleed britain dry.
