On the news it was said that black leaders are challenging the music and movie industries to ban the "n word" by ALL races. Do you think they will ever make any dent in this?

No, because you can't police people's minds or hearts or mouths, not effectively enough to stop something like that. What would you do, arrest people for it? The jails would overflow.

Black people need to stop identifying with the N word. By that I don't mean using it to refer to themselves in an ironic way. They need to stop accepting the negative traits that word implies as being the definition of what it means to be black, At the very least they need to stop thinking that having those traits is a good thing. If black leaders REALLY want to stop this, they will speak out against those traits.

They never do.

no,...in the entertainment business the word creeates "buzz", and controversy,..and that means $$$$$$$.

when there is no more money to be made playing out the race issue,..then maybe, hopefully some bigger gains can be acheived. The NAACP wants to end racism as much as the FBI wants to take out the mob totally, or the DEA wants to end the drug trade. Reach that objective and funding STOPS!

As long as people are going to be involved? That word will remain.

No, they won't be successful. Controversial black musicians and comedians who believe they have some kind of moral monopoly on the word will never give it up, and hateful non-black people who want to find a quick and easy way to offend will never give it up. I love my black leaders (really, I do!) but geez I wish they'd tackle an important, socially-relevant issue every now and then.

No. Not only is this word used in the entertainment industry, but many people in general have gotten comfortable using the word, in general everyday conversation. In today's society the word is used as a noun, but the way it is used determines its purpose.

I once encountered an elderly lady that told me that she defined the "n" word to describe an ignorant person, no matter what color their skin was..

We have "black leaders"??? Like who? Does this mean that there are "white leaders"? Seriously, this sounds like more efforts to further separate us as a people from the rest of the country. Black PEOPLE need to just plain stop using the N-word. Period. My black parents and black family raised me to never use that word and to not tolerate use of that word from anyone else, of ANY color. If rappers or whomever are using the N-word, belittling women, or talking about anything else that they shouldn't be, then I don't buy their music or otherwise support them. Period.

And if, by "black leaders", you are referring to Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, and the rest of those users, I wish they would all just shut the hell up and go somewhere. None of those self-serving idiots has done a damn thing for black people as a whole. Not one thing. And they are a cultural embarrassment. Black parents and black families need to show some common sense and start raising their kids right. Black people need to show some common sense and start being smarter with their money and stop being so trend-concious. And black people need to start listening to leaders of WHATEVER color who are working toward the common good for everyone, not just to other black people who are loud.

Rant over. Going now....

No I don't because according to numerous Comedians ( the black ones that I have heard)
As long as it is used in a Comedic Sense and not as a hateful word in anger - they will continue using it.
We should educate ALL - that no one should use the word, no matter what tone of voice, what the situation or what race you are...

I really hope so by the way I like your hat. To the respondent that say that African Americans use that word, not this one and always wish that we along with all races stop using that word and all words that put anyone's race down.

No never. As long as we still use it on ourselves. They need to start within the black race. No one is going to give us respect if it appears that we dont give it to ourselves.
